Let’s get one thing clear, DJ Eleven is one of our favourite DJs. Also, he’s one of our favourite people. So when one of our favourites puts together a mix of an artist who should be one of everybody’s favourites, then it’s a no-brainer. Devin The Dude’s music never gets old and this is a great reminder of so much of his incredible catalogue and a perfect warm-up for the new album ‘Suite next week. Here’s what our homie Eleven had to say…
“I don’t really know how else to put this… I’m a big Devin The Dude fan!
He’s the perfect combination of an exceptionally talented musician, a great MC, and a hilarious & charismatic guy. He’s been co-signed by and been on records with everyone from Scarface to Kool G Rap, The Roots to Jay-Z, Dre and Snoop to De La Soul. (And that’s only the big names! I’d be typing all day if I listed everyone that ever called him for a guest verse or some singing on a chorus.) Just before the first of the year, I sat down & started going through everything he’s ever been on to unearth all my personal favorites. While doing that, in addition to wishing I smoked weed, I got to thinking on how similar Devin was to another Dude character. Months later, the unholy combination of Devin Copeland + Jeffrey Lebowski + Joe Eleven emerged from the laboratory.

You can add Devin the Dude’s name to the long list of rappers who owe their careers to Dr. Dre. The Houston rapper recently stopped by the XXL offices to talk about the impact of appearing on the good doctor’s 2001 album.
…When Devin received a call from the West Coast producer in 1999 to be on the one night stand anthem “Fuck You,” it gave the Dude a sense of purpose. “When Dre came along and asked me to be a part of [2001] it really uplifted me, man, and let me know I was here for some type of reason. He told me he used to listen to our music with the Odd Squad back in the day when him and Snoop was on the first Chronic tour and that just put so much fuel in me, man…I was like, ‘Oh, okay, cool, man. I’ma just try to go at it full throttle.’”
