Review de ce "The Missing D.R. Files" qui me met bien l'eau a la bouche, sur MrMakaveli.net :

~~1. Intro~~

Missing from advance copy - Unable to comment on it.

~~2. So Long~~

Nice way to get the album underway, you guys have been allowed to hear this track in advance, and with me, I think alot of you agreed its a banger, its no way the strongest track on the album but it does its job!

‘So long’ is the type of song Mr Makaveli would of spat and made you feel, one we all will feel and have on repeat for a while yet, especially for those that have lost our best of friends.

Fans of Tupac’s work will notice a familiar sample used in the song! I think its safe to say 'use that sample on any artist and its sure to be fire'.

8/10

~~3. Better Dayz~~

'Better Dayz Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Better Dayz'! Even though we have had 2Pac’s solo version of the song since the album release 4 years ago this song still feels fresh hearing it now!

Complete with Intro from Pac dedicated to OFTB verse 1 lets the listener hear the familiar Pac verse (nothing changed) followed by Pac’s closest Road Dogg Big Syke!

Syke raps in an unfamiliar style, and its this style that makes you really feel the song its like ‘Hell wishing for better dayz’ makes us all reminisce and think/hope for those better dayz.

OFTB finish off the song with their verses and come good on it. Only thing missing is an outro, would of finished off the song beautifully, still it doesn’t take anything anyway from the beat, verses and overall feel of this original version of the track.

The perfect song? You judge!

10/10

~~4. That Was Then, This Is Now ~~

The beat sample to this reminds of ‘Worldwide’ for some reason. This is the old Kurupt and Snoop flavour you DR and Pac fans been waiting for!

As with the beat, the first OFTB rapper seems to also re-use lyrics from a song familiar to us.

Snoop steals the show on this track - CLASSIC DR Snoop verse you will love.

Don’t want to give too much away, just a matter of time now from you guys hearing this.

9/10

~~5. I Come Up Hard~~

Not feeling this song but alot of you will no doubt like it, there is just too much singing on it for me. The OFTB verses are tight but just the singing is a let down, I am a mellow fan but damn this is just too slow.

The weakest song on the album for me. The song is about ‘coming up hard’. OFTB reflect, in their verses, the hard times/dayz and reminisce and tell you about how they grew up.

‘I didn’t make it by playing by the rules’.

4/10

~~6. World Wide~~

Do I need to talk about this? Defiantly 1 of the top tracks from the album, we are all familiar with the song (most will know it as ‘Time after Time’) as far back as the 97’ bootlegs, but never before has the general public 2pac fans had the chance to have the song in full from beginning to end and of course having 1 of Pac’s best verses in full CDQ quality!

‘Tupac got ya back who can stop the hit!’ - this song is so much more then Tupac though, we see another great rapper cut short in his life, kadafi, spit what has to be one of his best verses on a guest appearance.

I don’t know if its because its CDQ but the beat just seems so much more mellow compared to the previous bootleg versions, not long to go now till you guys hear this in all its glory!

10/10

~~7. Check Your Hood~~

Hot, dope beat dope singing dope verses, what more could you want?

This is the type of beat you want to cruise slow to or light up a phat one to relax and chill. Everyone will remember the soulful sounds of Jewell from many DR classics, you get to hear that again here.

This is a rewind to a better time a lot of the older fans here will appreciate, they will love being taken back to the sounds of DR in 1996.

8/10

~~8. I Trust Nobody~~

Title says it all, TRUST NOBODY!

One of the harder songs from the Missing DR files, the trumpets on the hook are what makes the song. Gets you into it and you start to feel it the more you listen to it, on the 3rd listen you guys will know the lyrics for each verse.

The rap stars of today need to pick this up and really take note, this is what the REAL rap fans want.

8/10

~~9. Still A Mystery To Me (96’ 2pac Tribute)~~

Deep, this one confused me a little? It says featuring Kadafi, and yes he is there, but there is tribute verses to Kadafi in the song from the intro, storm etc.

The intro makes you sit and take note - ‘Moment of silence for all our fallen komradz, 2pac, kadafi but what ever u doing.....’ When 1 of the members of OFTB says in the intro ‘Tupac Shakur aka Makaveli’ I think its kadafi saying ‘my nigga my nigga my NIGGA’ sounds drunk, you know must of been hurting and shit, really does make you feel it from the jump, this review can’t portray what I am trying to put across to you.

Everyone knows my love/hate relationship with Kadafi and once again he has recycled lyrics! He didn’t even mention Pac in his verse, disapointing to me. However we do get to hear him in the intro/background throughout the song and the outro.

Its good to hear Storm again, we don’t have much of her but she comes through for her fallen soulja’s Pac and Yak.

You can just picture yourself in the studio with these kats, just sitting there in amazement watching them spit these deep verses, must of been a sad time, some of them sound drunk especially the guy on the outro (kadafi?).

This is one of the best tributes out there for Tupac and Kadafi - EDI, Kurupt, Storm, Napolean and of course OFTB all come through.

You can’t help by smile when OFTB rapping the lyrics - ‘what we gonna do? we gonna ride or die’ you instantly know what will follow and it sure does all of them together ‘lalallalalalalalallalalalaaaaaa’.

If I could vote it 1000/10 I would.

10/10

~~10. Project Kids~~

Old Skool feel, the kids on this make you feel the song more and are a nice touch. This wont appeal to everyone but any fan of that old 93 feel will love this, not more I can say on the track - its OFTB and the Nickerson Garden Project Kids on an old skool beat, great formula, not one of the strongest songs from the album but a nice filler and break from the mellow sounds of the album thus far.

If you are a Tupac fan you cant help but smile when the kids and rappers say together 'Aint not party like a project party cos a project party dont stop', will make you think to the unreleased/live version of Pac's I get around 'Aint no party like a thug life party cos a thug life party dont stop'...!

7/10

~~11. I’m On One~~

This is the best OFTB song on the album (minus the 2pac ones). The jamaican guy at the beginning and throughout the song gets you into the songs grimey verses/hooks and beat.

Wont say too much on this joint other then this really is one you need to hear and alot of the DR fans will be feeling it - I know I was.

The 'buck' 1, 2, 3 and 4's is a nice touch to a very dope song.

10/10

~~12. Ladies Night~~

I was dreading this one reading the title and I will admit I was thinking gay ass shit with that wack ladies night played out beat and lyrics.

We dont get the beat but we do get 'oh yes its ladies night and the feelings right........' but to my amazement its actually a pretty good 'poppy' 'happy' 'feel good' song.

They mention the deathrow crew,662, MGN etc and really get you in that feel what it would be like to roll with Deathrow Records - of course all happening and dedicated to the ladies.

Not bad at all, all round good song.

8/10

~~13. Doin’ It At The Spot ~~

Funny ass track, starts with a women getting fucked and the sounds of her being pleased and then OFTB stopping mid fuck to answer a call!

Then the mellow beat and soulful voice kicks in. A voice we all will recoingise - Big Pimpin (who do u believe in). Another track to light up to and cruise in your ride. Its the beat that makes you feel it. This is 1996 at its best and no doubt still sounding fresh and new 11 years later, why cant they make music like this anymore?

10/10

~~14. Lost Souls~~

I expected, for some reason, to hear something along the lines of 2Pac's version of the title song. 'Lost Soulz' Tupac version its not.

I really had to give this song a chance and I am glad I did, for the ending/outro alone. Its 1 of those tracks you need to listen to a few times before fully appreciating its message, its no 2pac 'lost souls' but I wouldnt expect it to be from OFTB.

Average song

5/10

~~15. Sooner or Later ~~

Perfect way to end, with what has been, a very enjoyable album and journey back to 1996-1998, 'Sooner or later', yet again, delivers a mellow beat which no doubt suit the OFTB crew and their style of rap.

Sooner or later its gonna fall in their favour, just hold your head and you will get there, see it through type song.

They speak the truth and summerize what I feel Deathrow Records could have been if they looked after their talented music artists..

Great Song and certaintly 1 of the highlights of the album - just wish that long intrumental at the end didnt have to end.

Banger.

10/10

CONCLUSION

Its been a long 2 months and well worth the wait. The time is soon approaching to take you all back to old school Deathrow Records flava. 'The Missing DR Files' delivers it all and so much more. Its true I am a Makaveli fan and not so much DR but this has certaintly got me back into it.

Only 1 song didnt appeal to me here, feeling a majority of them and will no doubt be playing until the end of year.

Lets hope this is the start of many hot and dope Tupac/Deathrow Projects from 101.

Special thanks to 101 for working alongside OFTB and Riskie to get this released for us, the fans, I think I speak for all of us when I say keep up the good work and make sure to keep dropping those projects!

Summerize: Highly Recommended album for not only the Deathrow Records fans but also the 2Pac fans.

Album: 8/10 Overall.
