Some new albums I recently got. I think, there is more and more Westcoast flavor coming to German rap. What do y'all think?

V/A - Distributionz Sampler Nr.1 (2008)

This compilation is done by www.distributionz.com which is probably the most important factor in starting the German underground hardcore rap scene. They were the first to bring Gangsta shit into the stores and putting out German rap with Dirty South or Westcoast influences.
Now, after ammost 10 years, they put out this great compilation. It's really off the hook and features underground artists from all over Germany.

CD 1
1. Playa Smoove - Das Spiel in meinem Blut
2. 41 Beatfanatika - Untergrund Vertrieb
3. Basstard - B.A.S.S.T.A.R.D

41Beatfanatika - Das Album (2008)

These guys are from the south of Berlin (Steglitz 41 to be exact, my hood :) ), and they have been pushing that Dirty South style for a couple of years now. As you can hear, they are mainly influenced by Memphis rap. It's their best album so far and I've been bumping it steadily...

04. Meine Schultern häng tief
05. Wir komm aus em Block
06. Tanz zur Melodie

08. Alptraum
09. oh yeahhh
10. Tust is
11. Jemand wie mich
12. G-Shit
13. Mein Hollywood
14. Anschlag
15. Fick auf deine Gang
16. Nicht deine Liga
17. Bis ich gehe
18. Dreckig so dreckig
19. Mach uns Platz

22. Leben in der Hood
23. Rap ist mein Leben RMX

MC Bogy präsentiert Atzenkeepers (2008)

MC Bogy spent a year in prison for armed robbery last year and is now out for 5 years probation. This is the first album he dropped since being out of jail and it's a compilation.
This is really on the more sentimental side, with a lot of songs talking about the street life and how it drags you down. As always, Bogy keeps it all the way real on this one. Nothing sugar coated or extra'd out...
My favorite album so far this year!

1. Intro
2. Gangstarshit
3. Betonmacht
4. Hägar Skit
5. Diese Straßen sind ein Dschungel
6. Mach Kohle
7. Steh wieder auf
8. Bring sie alle
9. Lieb mich oder lass mich allein
10. Bullen Skit
11. Gesetz der Straße
12. Klick Klick Boom
13. Folge dem Licht
14. Geh in den Tod
15. Wir machen euch kalt
16. Großstadthure
17. Dreh dich um
18. Für alle mein Jungs
19. Neid und Verrat
20. Wenn sich die Zelle schließt
21. Ein guter Tag
22. Outro

personally i just don't like the whole "horror movie" aesthetics....

well, his labelmate skinny al has some similar tracks ... maybe y'all like him as well..

Skinny Al - Wofür das Alles

Kaisa & Skinny Al - Regentanz

@westatron: good point. well, maybe it has something to do with what was first introduced in germany. you know, the whole german memphis style came out of berlin pretty much. and there was a big presence of US troops in the american sector of the city during the cold war. so maybe some GI's from tennessee just introduced memphis rap and people took a liking to it.
the first artists being successfull in the undegrround rap (frauenarzt, mc basstard, orgi69) were all into that hardcore south rap. and everybody after that just pretty much copied them...

LOL!

Hirntot Records had their court date yesterday and got sentenced to 10 months and 6 months on probabtion. all of their CDs are banned and cannot be sold in any stores anymore...
the chargees were glorification of violence, defamation of members of the parliament, invocation of hate crimes, sedition and others.... basically the judge wanted to make an example out of it and show that glorification of violence will not be tolerated in music.

there is a law in germany that restricts freedom of speech if you threaten the life of another person or invoke others to harm that person. the law has been used on neo-nazi music in the past and also on some death metal bands. but this is the first time it is used on rap music.
there is a huge discussion in germany if we need age limits for CDs. like, you have to be 18 to buy a certain CD.

personally i don't really know what to think of it. the state seems to overreact on this issue of Hirntot Records. but on the other hand there are definitely CDs out there with lyrics that my little brother shouldn't listen to. so i guess i'm all for an age limit for CDs in certain cases. just like for movies and video games...

look at some of their covers to get an idea of what kinda music they used to make:

Image

Image

Image

they call their music "psychocore". it's basically a horror movie on a CD... killing children, rape, killing cops, more killing, basically just killing....... personally i find it very childish, but i can see how a judge might take it seriously

So soon you'll have a german "Parental Advisory" on cd's lol I don't think that's the solution, even if retail stores respect this law (and I don't think so...), you can find this cd's on the internet. It's the same case as porno movies, teenagers keep on watching it, age limit or not, it's so easy to download...

Re: Allemagne

i agree. the people who really want this music will always get it, not matter if it is banned or not.

but i still think the court cases and banning of CDs are kind of a good thing. i mean, OK they take the money out of the rappers pockets. but on the other hand we finally have a public discussion about violence and the brutalization of the youth....
obviously music is not responsible for young people killing each other and acting out. but music like hirntot, kaisaschnitt and so on are not part of the solution either. i think, an age limit is OK, but in the end it's the parents who have to stay in touch with their children and take an interest in what they do. so they can intervene if they listen to some neo-nazi rock or to some off the wall hardcore rip-em-up rap music...

are there any restrictions on rap music in france? i remember that t-shirt... "je baiserai la france jusqu'elle même" or something like that. does any rap music get banned in france or is there total freedom of speech?

Some rappers have been sentenced to some fines or probation but their cd's are still available on stores. The only ban I've heard of is a compilation against police who got some tracks withdrawn on the final version (they talked about killing cops I think).
The T-shirts you talking about are still on sale, but by law they're prohibited to be wear in public (in some places that will be inforce, but not everywhere)

I found a search in my space, here's is my space :
