This past weekend I was left dissatisfied with VH1's Honoring of Rap legend Too Short of Oakland California. Since age 15, I was raised on the Music of Too Short. True, you can never go wrong with Too short, Scarface and Bun-B on the same stage ; but as a real fan, I wanted more.

So FWIW, I have put together the "YBBI Show: Tribute to Too Short" (one of my OGs). These are some of my favorite songs from Short Dog. Of course, I could not include all my favorites, although this list includes songs I personally have "rocked until the tapped popped" over the past 20 years.

it's Gettin' It (Album Number 10) that really got me into $hort Dogg music... before, i knew him by name of course but i never had the opportunity to throw a good ear to his discography (i was only 15 at the time, lol)... don't remember why nor where, but i happened to buy this CD in February '97 a few months after it got released and bam! it didn't leave my CD player for weeks!!

the CLASSIC cut "Never Talk Down" with Rappin' 4-Tay and MC Breed + the groovy/kinky anthem "I've Been Watching You" with Parliament Funkadelic are my 2 personal highlights of the album!! it's a shame you haven't put them in your playlist, ahahah... and what about that "Baby D" track?! i remember being like "whoa!? that youngster is rappin' like a motherfucka!!!" ahah...

anyway, i'm sure the show's gonna be pimpish and dope like it's supposed to!!!

You know Richmond is only 15 minutes north of Oakland (8 minutes at 160kph ), so as a Too Short fan, I go back to album number one. My best memories, like yours, are of my first hearing his music.

If you listen to the YBBI Show #1, the second song in my playlist is "Girl (Don't Do It) - Too Short - Don't Stop Rappin (Oakland 1984-85). I used the song to describe my love of rap. Short is a bona fide certified pioneer and one of my ultimate influences to get involved and operate like a pioneer. Pioneers ADD to the game and build shit so other muthafuckas can eat. I want to be remembered as that type of dude. Don't get me wrong tho, please understand, I still want a Gulf Stream 650 by the time I'm 40 y/o ; but I believe I can have both.


Re: Award
I have no personal dealing with USI Awards. Someone nominated The YBBI Show. I don't know who. Last year, Rinnessy was nominated. Also, in March 08, I did an hour interview with the talk show who won the award last year: "The Shit That Irks Me". My guess is the nomination came via one of those avenues.
