The rest of the story from YBBI & Trav Lyrics:
The owner of Extra Records was sent to prison in late 1998. He was the sole mastermind behind the marketing plan for all the albums shown inside the 'Extra Records Catalog Compilation'. The original goal was to complete all the projects (production and graphics) then consistently release the albums over 2 years. The label could not function properly with the owner in prison. He was the glue which held everything together. Things became more difficult as his legal drama escalated.
Prior to sentencing, three projects were released:
1. "OZ - Self Titled" (1997)
2. "The Extra Records Catalog" (1998)
3. "Pimp-P Mack - The Total Package" (1998)
In 1998, production was complete for OZ's sophomore album "Ozone", but the label was in limbo without focused, hands-on leadership. The other albums featured in the "Catalog" were still in production. Also, the remaining cover art had to be completed.
Before sitting down, the owner supervised all production and oversaw the beginning stages of the cover art as shown inside the "Catalog". From prison, he OK'd the "Ozone" release; however, a silent partner inherited the project. He did not follow the prescribed marketing vision. The new project manager used the original tracks, but never contacted Travlyrics Graphics to complete the official artwork. Instead, they delivered an "OZONE" album with packaging not in line with the original plan.
So now you know for a fact, the 1999 "OZONE" album is not a bootleg. The album is an official Extra Records release. It just has completely different artwork than what the public was expecting per the Extra Records Catalog . "OZONE" is a replicated CD. NOT a CDR.
To make this long story short, around 2001, all remaining copies were collected and returned to the label. Over the years and several moves, many copies were lost and destroyed. In 2008, some CDs and Cassettes have resurfaced. These are the mint condition originals available in the
Extra Records Box Set shown below.
And now you have, the rest of the story.
